#3: “WWE Survivor Series” (2004)

Trying to be a cruiserweight in HCTP was brutal. I'd do a couple of finishers against a super heavyweight and he'd still be in the yellow. He'd do one move against me and get me yellow and/or orange. And I remember one of the games (probably also HCTP) where I dreaded playing against Kurt Angle. He would build toward his finisher quickly, and if he succeeded, he always did that leg trip move and caught me in the ankle lock immediately afterwards. I ended up changing his moveset in revenge. xD Wwe racing game There weren’t too many WWE games released on the GameCube, but if we had to choose one for our money, it’d have to be Day of Reckoning 2. It had some great improvements over the first release, and looked better overall too. Plus you could plug in four controllers and just plain have a wild wrestling party!

Wrestling Empire 5. WWF No Mercy This was the last WWE game developed by developer Yuke's after its eighteen-year partnership with publisher 2K ended. 2K19 makes my list for many reasons - one of the main reasons was its longevity as the main WWE game to play due to the follow-up being a complete disappointment. 2K19 was released in 2018, and the following 2K20 game, released in 2019, was a complete flop. Due to that disappointing release, there wouldn’t be a new WWE video game in the series until 2022. The "Showcase" mode in this game focuses on the legendary career of Daniel Bryan.

Teaming up with Yuke's, who had handled the WWE games for numerous years, this was a back-to-basics pure wrestling game that put the emphasis on developing and improving their chosen wrestler through hard-fought matches. This wasn't about sports entertainment (sorry, Chris Jericho), but about good, old-fashioned rasslin'. IGN praised "Wrestle Kingdom" for being a different simulation and wrestling experience to other games of its era, adding how "Drama mode is a solid addition to the game, and surprisingly, taking on an AI opponent can be very challenging at times." Is WWE 2K24 on Game Pass? Released to coincide with the Road to WrestleMania, WWE 2K24 isn’t likely to be shy in cashing in on some mutually beneficial hype – and for the most part it’s worth it. The game has plenty of modes to sink your teeth into and most of them are worth playing. And if you're thinking of buying a new TV to get the most out of the experience, look through our Best Gaming TVs rundown to narrow down your choices.

The more recent games have had awful AI, but I feel like WWE 13 was particularly bad. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like 2K14 was a lot better AI-wise. I'm hoping they step up their game even more with 2k15. I think I've gotten too good at these games because every year I ask people who have the game if the AI is any good, and every time they say it's so improved and talk about how they're losing matches. But then I actually buy it myself, and it couldn't be easier. CHOOSE YOUR EDITION If you haven’t already heard, developer 2K Games has cancelled its more simulation-focused entry this year, WWE 2K21. Last year’s outing was – to put it lightly – absolutely shambolic, with countless game-breaking bugs that at least made for some truly entertaining videos.
